Whole-Student Wellness

Marvelwood’s commitment to wellness reflects our belief that students thrive when they feel safe, seen, and supported.

By nurturing physical health, emotional resilience, social connection, and self-awareness, our students develop the confidence and skills they need—not just for school, but for life.

Wellness As A Way Of Life

Wellness at Marvelwood is a consistent and comprehensive culture of care woven into daily life.

Whether in class, on the field, in the dorm, or over dinner, our students are surrounded by compassionate adults who are deeply invested in their well-being. There are no cracks to fall through because every student here is truly known, seen, and supported.

With most faculty living and working alongside students, that support is constant, personal, and real. Students don’t always have to ask for help to receive it because the people who know them best are already paying attention. That safety net of connection and trust helps students feel grounded and confident as they grow.

“When I’m going through something hard, my mom asks if I’ve talked to my teachers yet. I have six trusted adults I can go to throughout the day. It’s incredible to have immediate access to support.”

Flexible Support

Wellness is not one-size-fits-all.

Marvelwood meets students where they are—emotionally, socially, and developmentally—with flexible offerings and expert support that evolves alongside them. Some students meet with counselors weekly while others seek support during challenging times. The goal is not to prescribe a single path to wellness, but to help students discover what works for them.

A Proactive Approach

With wellness intentionally integrated, students gain the awareness and tools to advocate for their own well-being on a consistent basis—not just when challenges arise.

  • Advisory check-ins foster reflection, goal-setting, and communication
  • Academic classes and electives like Mindfulness & Yoga encourage self-awareness
  • After-school programs support physical activity, creativity, and restorative practices
  • Coaches reinforce teamwork, resilience, and positive self-talk
  • CASA initiatives cultivate empathy and global understanding
  • Ongoing professional development equips faculty to recognize and respond to the emotional and developmental needs of adolescents with empathy and care

A 24/7 Network of Care

At Marvelwood, our comprehensive resources and experiences support students from every angle, giving them the skills to thrive in and beyond the classroom.

On-Campus Counseling

Two full-time licensed counselors from Greenwoods Counseling & Referrals are on campus every weekday for confidential support and prevention services through scheduled and drop-in sessions. Using practical, evidence-based approaches—including motivational interviewing and cognitive-behavioral strategies—counselors offer therapy and targeted interventions that help students build healthier coping skills and confidence.

Counselors also work closely with parents, helping families stay aligned and supported when challenges arise. When appropriate, a consulting psychiatrist is available for medication consultation and management.

Health Office

Located at the center of campus, the Health Office provides a full range of on-site health services in a warm, confidential environment. Nursing staff support students’ daily health needs and administer medications when needed.

Advisory

Every student is paired with a faculty advisor who meets with them twice a week and serves not only as a trusted guide but as a facilitator for their individual network of care. Beyond structured sessions and small advisory groups, students see their advisors at meals, in classrooms, the dorms, on weekends, and around campus. Knowing each student well, advisors play a central role in keeping families, faculty, counselors, and leadership informed and aligned.

Advisors monitor academic and social-emotional progress, support goal-setting, help students navigate challenges, and even arrange group events and outings. From helping students manage their weekly schedule to planning major projects and arranging trips home, advisors are a constant source of support and connection.

Deans’ Office

At Marvelwood, the Deans’ Office plays a proactive and collaborative role in student wellness, providing an additional layer of support. Our Deans aren’t feared—they’re advocates whose door is always open when students need guidance. When students stumble, our Deans help them get clear on the issue, understand boundaries, own their missteps, and put structures in place to move forward from a place of growth and accountability.

Prefects & Peer Support

Trained student leaders help shape dorms into places where everyone feels supported, respected, and at home. They help peers navigate conflict, offer steady guidance, and model what a healthy community looks like in action. As community builders, they also encourage dorm-specific group activities and events that promote camaraderie and connection.

Connections Program

Connections is a safe, judgment-free space where students build life skills, self-awareness, and belonging. Small-group sessions focus on social-emotional learning, communication, stress management, and exploring identity and purpose.

Workshops & Events

During Enrichment Saturdays, workshops, and special events, we support personal growth, community-building, and real-life readiness with topics that include healthy relationships, nutrition and cooking, mindfulness and stress management, digital literacy, global citizenship, and everyday life skills. These opportunities allow students to experience what they are learning firsthand and develop skills in a supportive community with trusted peers and adults.

Elective Spotlight: Meditation & Yoga

Students learn practices that bring body, mind, and spirit into balance. Through movement, breath work, and mindfulness, they develop tools to manage stress, deepen self-awareness, and cultivate a sense of calm that supports both academic and personal success.
