Marvelwood School, a small independent boarding and day secondary school located in the Berkshire foothills in scenic Kent, CT, is seeking candidates for a part-time position as an Athletics & Residential Life Intern starting in August 2025.
Marvelwood’s Internship program provides an excellent opportunity for individuals who may be interested in a career in teaching, particularly at an independent boarding school, to immerse themselves in the life of a vibrant educational community while learning to appreciate all that is required of a full-time faculty member in a residential environment.
The successful candidate will join an exceptional faculty and work with students in grades 9-12. We seek creative, energetic individuals who are eager to benefit from mentoring, will value the opportunity to commit fully to the athletic, social, and emotional support and development of teenagers, and possess the necessary experience and skills to contribute as a lead or assistant coach in three seasons of competitive athletics.
Duties associated with this Internship position include active participation in both evening dorm duty and weekend duty on a manageable schedule to be determined, as well as yearlong involvement in daily after-school athletics programming. A Bachelor’s degree is preferred but not required. Compensation includes a modest stipend; medical, dental, and vision benefits; a matching retirement plan; apartment housing in one of four campus dormitories; and meals when school is in session. The opportunity to participate in the school’s hallmark weekly Community Service program, as well as to take advantage of professional development initiatives offered to the faculty, are additional potential benefits of this position.
The flexibility offered by the daily and school year schedules may make it possible for interns to hold part-time jobs off campus, to shadow teaching faculty, or to continue their studies. In some cases, internships may be extended longer than a single year; for those possessing a Bachelor’s degree, successful performance in an Intern role may also result in an offer of full-time employment.
A cover letter, resumé, and list of reference contacts should be emailed to Zach Maizel, Co-Director of Athletics, at zach.maizel@marvelwood.org.
