Before the winter break, Sam Brody '18, Owen Tacy '20, Max Branson '20 & Kyrie Mbono '20 went to Stamford Academy, Marvelwood's partner school for the IMAX In-Focus project. We brought a camera, tripod, microphones, and other equipment, which were purchased for Stamford with a grant from IMAX. This is the first time the film department at Stamford Academy has had equipment of their own.

All of the student filmmakers were thrilled to get started on the project!

Background: The Marvelwood Film Studies Program was awarded a grant to make a documentary as part of IMAX IN FOCUS. Out of 40 high school film programs nominated for the grant, just five were selected to receive the grant and participate in the project. Marvelwood is collaborating with the Civic Life Project at Stamford Academy to make a short documentary on one of the United Nation’s Global Initiatives.

Now in it’s second year, IMAX IN FOCUS is a multi-faceted philanthropic program to benefit student film programs, to help the next generation of filmmakers develop their creative abilities and use the power of film to drive positive change. IMAX has worked with the All-American High School Film Festival to identify exemplary schools, which Marvelwood participated in last year with its Civic Life film, The Magic of the Atom and film studies short, The Spirit of the Dead.
