Senior Spotlight: Maddie Malinowski & Koby Mbonu

by Sydney Mims '24, Pterodactyl Times Co-Editor

With graduation fast approaching, the Pterodactyl Times interviewed two 4-year seniors, Maddie Malinowski and Koby Mbonu. We asked them some questions about their Marvelwood experience and their next steps at college. Here is what they had to say:

How has Marvelwood helped you socially?

Maddie: It's helped because when I need to, the teachers can push me, but they also know when to pull away to let me be on my own. I'm still getting some experience for myself, but I don't feel like I'm by myself; I have the support I need to be able to be comfortable socially.

Koby: Well, it’s a smaller school so there are more kids that aren't necessarily the same, whereas, at a bigger school, I’d probably stick to the kids that have the same interests as me; since it’s smaller, I’m more relegated to speak to kids I'm don’t necessarily have interests with.

How has Marvelwood helped you academically?

Maddie: There's always been the option to get help if I need it, and teachers also reach out if they see I'm struggling in a class. It’s not always just me reaching out. It just means that other people care and encourage you to want to do better yourself.

Koby: Well, small class sizes. It allows you to have more one-on-one time with the teacher and helps you learn better in class. You're not just a number; teachers know you.”

What college are you going to?

Maddie: Central Connecticut State University” in Connecticut

Koby: Oberlin College in Ohio

What are you going to do after college, and what's your major?

Maddie: I’m going to be going into management, and hopefully into the sports field. I'm hoping to work in the management offices for maybe the NBA or NFL.

Koby: I'm currently undecided. I don't know what I want to do in college yet. I might go into sociology, possibly, and after college, I just want to play soccer. I would really like to be a professional soccer player.”

Who has been there for you when you needed it, and who has pushed you towards being your best self?

Maddie: Miss Maizel has always been super great. She's always there for me when I need someone to talk to, whether it's academically or socially. She's been a great help. She always pushes me to succeed and helps me believe in myself. She's been encouraging.”

Koby: Miss Winter and Miss Maizel have been there for me when I needed them the most. Miss Maizel has helped me with math; they both keep what I say confidential during talks. Miss Winter has always given me great advice when I come to her with different types of situations.”

Congratulations to all the seniors! The staff at the Pterodactyl Times wishes you the best of luck in your next steps. Thank you to all the teachers who have helped these seniors on their Marvelwood journey.
