The Puppies Are Back!

Marvelwood School has been participating in Guiding Eyes for the Blind's Home Socialization Program for about 15 years.

We had to take a hiatus for the past few years as a virus was circulating at the Canine Development Center, but we recently re-established our relationship with the program.

Our work with the young puppies helps to assess their temperaments and fitness to become guide dogs for individuals with visual impairment.

Today’s “work” was all about snuggling, responding when called, and acclimating to our surroundings; tomorrow, it’s on to navigating stairs and textures! Ashley Wilkins ‘24 is taking an active role in this program and will be documenting the journey of the GEB puppies via a Story Map to earn credit in her Biology class.

Several other students will be able to earn elective credit throughout the year for their involvement in the program.

Special thanks to the Wilkins family for their sponsorship!
