The Marvelwood Players present:
The Masque is a competition between two teams of students who write, direct, act, and design a show. At the beginning of the process, students are given a theme and three elements that must be included in their production. This year the theme is "Ignorance is Bliss".
The first production, Cards, is a dystopian fiction in which people have to ask cards for permission to do things. The collaborative team behind Cards is: Devaire Barnaby '22, George Fink '23, Brook Madden '23, Amelia Marshall '20, Max Foster '20, and Lacy Salter '20
The second production, A Boy Named Jamie, is an original musical about a boy who hides from reality through song and dance. Colby Newman '23 wrote the lyrics and plays the lead. Maddie Paddock '21 wrote the script, and she and Colby co-directed the production. Production assistants include Amadeus Rule '20 on set design and Brennan Wilkins '22 on prop acquisition. Brennan Wilkins '22, Kaleb YM '20, Maddie Paddock '21, Amadeus Rule '20 and Thomas Hodgkinson '23 round out the cast.
"I love doing the Masque," says Director Misty Jordan, "because it forces each team of students to learn every element of theatrical production and then apply it to an actual show."
A team of experts will attend Friday night’s performance to adjudicate the productions, give feedback, and ultimately pick a winner.
Showtimes are Thursday, February 13 and Friday, February 14 at 8pm and Saturday, February 15 at 2pm in the Performing Arts Center at The Marvelwood School.
Livestreaming on Friday night through Facebook!
