Marvelwood Envirothon Team Competing in Nationals!
We are proud to announce that Marvelwood’s Envirothon team won the 2021 Connecticut State competition! The State program is organized by the Connecticut Envirothon program (ctenvirothon.org). Congratulations to our incredibly dedicated and talented team of environmentalists: Aiden Cheniske '23 of Kent, Ashley Wilkins '24 of Kent, Brennan Wilkins '22 of Kent, Maddie Paddock '21 of Lakeville, and Olivia Pignataro '21 of Carmel, NY, as well as their faculty advisor, Science Department Chair Laurie Doss. Throughout the year, this intrepid group pursued a natural resource-based curriculum that culminated in a virtual field day competition in late May. Marvelwood earned top three finishes in four out of five categories: Wildlife (1st), Soils (1st), Aquatics (2nd) and Forestry (3rd) and, for the first time in the school’s history, they won the overall competition and will represent Marvelwood and the State of Connecticut in the international Envirothon.
CT Envirothon Vice-Chair Chris Sullivan stated, “It was an interesting and often difficult year for our teams, and we are proud of all the schools that participated this year. Moving forward we are especially proud of our State Champions from Marvelwood School and excited to help prepare them for continued success at the international competition in 10 days!”
The team has been busy preparing for the competition, coordinated by NCF Envirothon (Envirothon.org), which will take place July 25-28, 2021. 42 teams from across the U.S., Canada, and China will test their environmental and natural resources conservation knowledge & skills during the virtual 2021 annual international competition. Most of these 42 teams represent their States as Champions. The international competition is hosted by the Nebraska Association of Resources Districts.
