Congratulations to junior Evan Juers, who has qualified for inclusion in the 2011 National Merit Scholarship Program.
Evan's performance on the PSAT test makes him one of the 50,000 highest-scoring students of some 1.5 million juniors who took the test last fall. According to a letter sent to Headmaster Scott Pottbecker, "these high performers have shown outstanding academic potential" and are now invited to be referred by the National Merit Scholarship Corporation to two colleges or universities in the United States in which they are especially interested.
The top scorers in each state--about 16,000 of the top 50,000 students--will go on to be named National Merit Scholarship Semifinalists in September. Others will receive formal commendations for their performance on the PSAT.
Evan is one of only two Marvelwood students to qualify for a National Merit Scholarship since the school began to participate in the National Honor Society program in 2005. The first, Mick Franco '07, is currently a college junior.
