The Boy’s Varsity Basketball team has had some difficulty finding its identity so far this season. The guys have been inconsistent with their effort and focus throughout the first seven games of the season. It has been unfortunate because a team that could clearly be in the top half of a HVAL has to kick and scratch for the remainder of the season to even contend for a berth in the Hudson Tournament. In almost every game the team has played hard but has lacked the killer instinct that it takes to close out games. Yesterday the boys put it all together.

The team came out with a sense of urgency that even Coach Hastings was impressed with. The team played tough throughout the first half but could not take the upper hand against a gritty NYMA team. At the half the score was tied 18-18. The beginning of the second half the team began to take more pride in its defense, with the substitution of Mike Guo the team defense played up to its full potential. All of a sudden defense was what we took the greatest pride in. Ronald Lewis, Woody Diallo, Sean Kuo, and Edward Xu fed off of Mike’s energy and began to fly all over the court. Chris Borkowski added an important three point field goal with four minutes left to put the Pterodactyls up for good!

The usual suspects led the team in scoring and rebounding. Toby had 24 points and 6 rebounds. Woody led the team with 12 rebounds adding 7 points of his own. Ronald played the most inspired basketball of his senior year; but Mike Guo was the main reason for the teams dramatic turnaround in the second half. - Coach Hastings
