Most people living in and around the town of Kent are aware of the fact that Marvelwood's campus boasts some of the most delicious of late-summer treats: blueberries! Every year at summer's end, local residents, their families and out-of-town friends can be seen wandering purposefully through the extensive patch of blueberry bushes that stretches out by the woods behind the athletic center.
Marvelwood's blueberry patch is as popular for its extensive yield as it is for the fact that pickers may collect the berries free of charge.
For several years, our Community Service program has worked hard to maintain the bushes, resulting in increasing accessibility and yield from one year to the next. Recently, our crews have set to work on another neglected blueberry patch that runs along Skiff Mountain Road on the western edge of the campus.
Our work there recently caught the attention of the Sharon (CT) Land Trust, and was featured in an article in the Lakeville Journal on January 7th. Click here to read the full article, and click here for more information about our Community Service program.
