Arthur F. Goodearl, Jr. was appointed Marvelwood’s sixth Head of School effective July 1, 2011. A graduate of Harvard College, A.B. History, Art also earned a MALS degree in History from Wesleyan University.
Art taught and served for many years at Choate-Rosemary Hall where he was also Head of the History Department, Coordinator for the Ethics and Public Policy Program, Co-Chair of the Long Range Planning Committee and Student Dean. In 2001, Art was invited to serve as Assistant Headmaster and Dean of Faculty at Hillside School. He worked to develop and implement successful strategic plans for both Choate and Hillside School. Art has been involved with all aspects of an independent school: faculty development, curriculum development, strategic planning, advancement and admission outreach, construction oversight, crisis management, parent communications and student life.
Art is married to Mary Lina Foulkes Goodearl, who works in the Bodkin Library as a technical librarian. The Goodearls have three adult children and two grandchildren.

The Head's residence is centrally situated on the Marvelwood campus. A grand colonial, it was buit in the 1850s by Peter Skiff, who farmed hundreds of acres including and surrounding Marvelwood's current 87 acre campus.
