Afternoon and Weekend Activities

Afternoons and weekends are when the cultural immersion elements of our program really have their impact. Our structured activities give participants real-life opportunities to employ their developing skills. Trips to museums, plays, local fairs, movies and restaurants, scavenger hunts in town, and excursions to destinations such as New York City or the Connecticut coastline are all designed to allow international students to practice their listening and speaking skills by interacting with English speakers. We know that grammar and sentence structure is important, but we also want first-time visitors to America to be able to negotiate their way in stores, count change, ask for help or directions, and understand the value of the resources available in their communities.

Opportunities for individual or small-group instruction in art, music, tennis or swimming are available for an additional fee, and may be scheduled with the Director of Summer Programs.
